Freshwater Mussel Workshop 2.0 (5-8 October 2015). A four day workshop on freshwater mussels will be held at the Ohio State University Museum of Biological Diversity. We will emphasize identification of upper Ohio River and Great Lakes species, as well as sampling protocols and permitting issues.


As freshwater mussels become more and more important to regulatory agencies, biologists, conservationists, and consultants, the level of expertise required to work with these animals has dramatically increased. Several states now require a proficiency test to apply for a permit and more are expected to require this as well. Of primary importance is the ability to correctly identify species. Is it a common, widespread species? Or a federally endangered look alike? This 4 day workshop will address these issues. Attendees will receive hands on training in identification, lectures on survey methods and protocols, class notes, breakfasts and lunches, and two field trips. The Ohio State University Division of Molluscs is the largest collection of freshwater molluscs in the world. Located off campus, the Museum offers on site parking and is easily accessible to numerous hotels and restaurants. A steal at $600 - and a cool T-shirt.

Может они просто собрали несколько миллионов экземпляров какого-то одного вида у себя в Огайо и так насчитали? Или по весу? :D
